Rebecca Muniz, soprano

Rebecca Muniz began singing at an early age, performing her solo debut of Handel’s “Ombra mai fu” for the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago at the age of 14. Her performance captivated a rare audience of international dignitaries, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Joseph Cardinal Bernadin.

Rebecca studied vocal performance at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, earning the Townsend Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Performance in Music. While in Chicago, she sang extensively with the Grammy-winning Chicago Symphony Orchestra Chorus, as well as the professional New Classic Singers. Rebecca has performed under the batons of Sir Georg Solti, Pierre Boulez, Mstislav Rostoprovich, Zubin Mehta, Daniel Barenboim and Christoph Eschenbach.

Since moving to Austin, Rebecca has appeared with a variety of ensembles including the Texas Early Music Project, Texas Choral Consort, and Grammy-nominatedConspirare. She serves as Soprano Section Leader at St. Louis Catholic Church, where she frequently contributes as a soloist, most recently singing Handel’s “Let the Bright Seraphim.” She has attended a variety of workshops, including Berklee College of Music’s Summer Performance Program, the Texas Toot, and the Amherst Early Music Festival. Rebecca recorded in 2010 with the Austin-based band Balmorhea and is featured on their limited-edition LP Candor/Clamor.
