Stephanie Prewitt, mezzo-soprano

Praised for her expressivity and her “superb voice,” Stephanie Prewitt has performed to critical acclaim in theaters, cathedrals, and concert halls throughout the United States and Europe. She sings repertoire spanning eight centuries, and has a wide range of musical styles at her command. A resident of Europe for two years after completing her university training, she soloed regularly with the renowned Clemencic Consort in the Musikverein of Vienna and the Théatre des Champs-Elysées of Paris. Since returning to her hometown, Austin, Texas, she has played an important role in the city’s flourishing arts scene, helping to found Conspirare, Craig Hella Johnson’s stellar Company of Voices, and Texas Early Music Project, Daniel Johnson’s diverse and eclectic ensemble of musicians devoted to historical performance practice. She also has a long-standing relationship with La Follia Austin Baroque.

In the USA, she has sung as both soloist and ensemble-member with many festivals and arts organizations: Aspen Music Festival; Early Music New York; New Texas Music Works; Round Top Early Music Festival; Victoria Bach Festival; and Voices of Music. In 2001, she received the Austin Critics Table Award, and an Adams Fellowship from the internationally acclaimed Carmel Bach Festival. In the U.S., she has recorded for Koch International, singing 12th-century polyphonic chant with Heliotrope, an ensemble based in California. In Europe, she has recorded for Preiser and Nuovo Era, singing jazz, gospel, and baroque opera.
