Jonathan Milton
Jonathan Milton, Irish flute
Jonathan Milton, Irish flute player, has studied traditional Irish music, history, and culture for over 15 years. He was first inspired by the recordings of the great piper, storyteller, and music collector Séamus Ennis since 1992.
Already an accomplished guitarist, Jon began playing the flute and building his repertoire at traditional sessions and ceilis. Jon furthered his studies by attending classes and workshops with John Skelton, flute player of the House Band, who has been a great influence. Regular performances at regional Celtic festivals followed, and Jon has been a fixture of the Southwest traditional music scene since that time. He continued his study of the music by listening to and learning the playing of masters such as John McKenna, Matt Molloy, Joe Cooley, Michael Tubridy, Denis Murphy, and Willie Clancy. He strives to preserve the beauty and the communal spirit that is central to their playing. He has been fortunate enough to play sessions and perform with many of the great players in the U.S. and Ireland. He currently resides in Austin, where he teaches and regularly performs with guitarist/singer Jeff Moore and the band Aidan.
